- Generally OS will come first in choice
-
I love these "earth shattering" studies...
I will agree in many ways that the OS comes first in picking a smartphone. But after you pick your poison, features and form factor are the more important choices. I was a long time Palm OS user and enjoyed the platform in many ways but I did decide to switch OS to Windows and really can't complain that much even though I really had a hard time going to the "dark side". After using Windows Mobile for six months, I can say that it's just as stable as PalmOS and has almost the same options for various third party software.
That said, I picked the wrong form factor (vx6700) for my needs. I defected from PalmOS due to the need for built in WiFi, Exchange Activesync and multimedia issues (Slingbox, XM streaming, etc). I love all the features I switched for but the side keyboard is not for me. I would not go back to the Treo line with Windows until better screen displays are released and other phones I like have not been released yet.
So yes, OS is usually the first factor one choices before buying a smartphone but it's far from the only factor. The only thing I really miss from the PalmOS is a good RSS reader and the GUI options I could create with ZLauncher. These are third party options and really not much to do with the OS as a whole. - Posted by: manielse@... Posted on: 11/29/06 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
