Sword rattling
To "PC and special interests" I guess you can add the substitution of catch phrases for real thought. The rush to aquiesce to this Bush/Cheney/NSA/PATRIOT ACT scheme, which is essentially a gutting of the 4th Amendment so that we can "win the war on terrorism", will never cease to amaze me.

In my opinion, the degree to which we acquiesce to these kinds of illegal shenanigans is precisely the degree to which the 'terrorists' have already achieved their aims. Bush tells us over and over that they "hate freedom", and yet his counter-terrorism measures add up to an incremental achievement of that goal...the destruction of freedom. Bush took an oath of office which obliges him to "protect and defend the Constitution Of the US", and yet he advocates the abrogation of the Bill of Rights so that we can all be "safe" from terrorists. That, in my opinion, is an impeachable offense, since it is in direct conflict with his oath of office.

If we can't protect our society without destroying the very thing that makes it worth saving, then we have already lost this conflict.
