text msg as cash cow
Last month Sprint sent me a text message ADVERTISING the availability of football on my phone (an option I don't subscribe to - I just need a phone, not a portable TV). I assumed it would be a free message since they sent it to me to advertise THEIR service. Imagine my surprise when my bill was larger by not 10 cents, but by 66 cents, due to increases in various "taxes" (for an unsolicited ad from my provider). I never use text messaging, and would have shrugged over the dime, but as it was, I called their support and had text messaging permanently turned off.
