Text message spam could spell trouble for text-based ads

Text Marketing *IS* Spam, pure and simple.: ... and worse they want *me* to pay to receive it!

Charging me $0.10 / message to harass me with unwanted marketing drivel is not going to earn a company my business. If my vendor (Nextel) starts doing this, then I will cancel my account when it comes up for renewal, make it *very* clear to them why they are being consigned to the trash heap, and go with another provider who respects their customers.

I'm sure that at least one cell provider will forgo the advertising revenue to keep it's customers, but if they *all* start doing this then I will simply switch to a phone which doesn't support these features or disable said features in whatever phone I am given.

Spam is bad enough in my e-mail box where a combination of white-lists, black-lists, and filters can help me keep it down a bit ... but if I start getting it on my cell phone then I am *really* going to be angry ... maybe even angry enough to stop carrying one.

Ah, well, enough rant for one day. This is, as always, just my $0.02 USD and your opinion may vary.

Hey, maybe you want unsolicited marketing by unscrupulous boiler-room criminals ... after all the world is full of masochists.
