Email/Online Service Inertia
I think the primary reason is online service inertia. It takes a lot to swtich email services but once people switch (keyword here is switch-not try out) to Gmail they rarely ever swtich back!

Like pjricc, I switched to Gmail about a year ago and haven't looked back since. I now use it to sync about 8 email accounts including my old school email accounts, dormant professional email subscriptions etc and I'm happy that there's going to be a application that makes it even more accessible to the mobile user.
