Well considering the fact that
Iran and pretty much the rest of the Arab nations are incapable of invading the US, your asertions of being under rule of shari'a are red herrings. The conflict in Iraq is about oil and control of the area. Any sane person can see that. Why didn't we step into Bosnia and Serbia during the slaughter of millions when that was happening? I sat off the coast and watched and listened to the gun fire and artillery as thousands of innocent men, women and children were murdered. The US did nothing to prevent the slaughter. We sat there and watched. And yet we are exacting revenge and saving the Iraqi's and Kurds? What is different, they are both Muslim nations... oh that's right, Iraq has a butt ton of oil!

Next, yes the military is all volunteer, but when the poor can barely make enough to shelter themselves and feed themselves, have no medical or dental the military becomes the only hope of salvation. Even for those that don't believe in the military.

I did a 14 year stint, and met several that joined simply so they could get the benefits and GI bill. Not for patriotism or the honor of being a warrior. But so they could at least have a chance to go to school and hopefully be in the 5% of the American population that actually managed to move from poverty to middle class.

Hell that's why I joined! I came from a poor family, no mommmy and daddy fund to put me through college, no athletic scholarships either. I joined so I could get a decent education and some expeirence that would land me a decent job. And I succeeded but at the cost of my knees, shoulder, hearing and back.
