I'll Stand with you
I drove a truck for 15 years. Until 2003 when I was struck by lightning while loading some steel in Ohio. The next 30 months, were a montaige of restarting an old wood working business I had years ago and trying to get healthy at the same time. While early efforts seemed to be working, both in health and woodworking, ultimately I am working an uphill battle just to be able to walk, let alone work. I have recieved no gov't support, a limited food stamp budget and a brother who has had two serious strokes himself, that out of his own pocket bought this computer and helps pay for my getting online. Since Katrina and the elevated fuel prices, my woodworking "business" has basically died. I went from an income of 30,000 in 2002, to so far this year of $175.00. That's right kids, my income for 2006 so far in 7 plus months is less than a weeks worth of income on minimum wage. If I stop my fight for disability, I lose the $152 a month food stamps that keep what works, going. So when I hear all this complaining about who pays what tax and how much and for how long. Look at it from my perspective. In road use tax alone, to the several states I drove through from 1987 to 2003, would not only, potentially, repair the damage to my body and mind from the lightning, plus assuming I would be able to drive after such repairs were made, pay for a brand new truck and trailer with necessary tools and equipment, but also pay for fuel of up to two more years at $4.00 a gallon. As a truck owner operator, from 1988-2003 I paid in taxes, $954,235 while taking home for my family to live on an average of $30,000 a year. some years were better some not even close. But through it all were the taxes paid I can wish I had back Right now. So since it looks like that is not going to happen, I'm learning the visible portions of the internet and how to deal with the spiders and snakes coming at me for just visiting a website. The past 4 -6 days have been the worst in the 15 months i've been online. 47 trogans and a virus that replicated a driver faster than I could delete it out. My system is now running faster and sharper since this attack, all because of a strike of lightning that has confined me to one small room of my own house.
