Here we go again... And great timing!
Quoted from the last paragraph of the article: "I think this could delay adoption in the voice over IP market for companies that are just now considering switching their phones to IP," said Yankee's Kerravala. "There could be a lot of customers who will just wait to see what Microsoft will come out with in 2007."

When is this industry going to change? When companies hold off on implementing/adopting something because they want to see what Microsoft is up to first - Haven't we learned from this behavior by now?

This article has great timing - we're running live for the first day on our brand new phone system.

I just implemented a complete VOIP solution based on open source packages. Asterisk is VOIP PBX solution that is here TODAY. Oh, and here's a link to something interesting -

FYI - I paid a company to implement this - even though the software is free, I hired an expert to configure Asterisk for us. We got into this system for less than 5K, including the server (Dell running Red Hat) and Polycom phones. Not bad, considering it replaced a $15K AT&T Partner Plus system.

I have the functionality of a $100K Nortel PBX for less than 1/20th the price!
