I'm a victim too (with 2 lines)
I've had 3 lines of service with former AT&T for years now. Last year, my daughter's phone simply would not make or receive a call so I got suckered into getting her a Cingular GSM phone (moto v220). This is a completely separate Cingular Business unit, so if I call their "support" number and ask about my other two lines, they can't help me. Meanwhile, one of her "friends" starting using her cell phone number to download tons of games a ringtones, costing several hundred dollars a month! Eventually I got those charges credited but it took several months. Meanwhile I'm still using the Moto V60i identical to the daughter's phone, limping along with barely any service, and my other daughter has a Nokia 3560 Tdma phone. Then in April while I was swimming at the YMCA, some jerk broke into my car and stole the stereo, and my fanny pack containing everything, including the v60. I tried to buy another tdma phone but they wouldn't sell me one. I bid and won a v60i from ebay (Verizon model). That phone has 5 bars in my house! I haven't actually used it, I just got it to compare signal strength. What am I using now? the busted v60i that my daughter gave up a year ago for the GSM phone. It works about 10% of the time if I put new electrical tape around the antenna every day. Last week I got a letter stating they are discontinuing TDMA in 2008 but in the meantime I can still use my present equipment on my present plans, for a mere $4.99 (per line) extra a month. What is that for? the TDMA infrastructure has been in place all this time. I didn't see a $4.99 charge on the other (GSM) bill. I can't wait to switch to Verizon in the next couple of months.
