For more than 10 years i had a Cingular account and yesterday i switched to Verizon. When Cingular started to merge with AT&T the service just got progressively worse. Voice mails took as long as 5 days to register on my cell phone and as a Doctor its a serious problem when a patient is unable to get hold of me ? In the last year or so calls dropped more frequently than ever before and it seems like coverage has been reduced as the number of black out areas has increased. I have a friend who was on an unlimited AT&T plan and was forced to switch to a sub standard plan with SBC when her phone needed replacing. I am canceling all my DSL and land lines with AT&T as these services are also very poor with numerous outages and dropped calls even on the land lines. I advise everyone who can switch to an alternative service do so and send a message to AT&T.
