Linux was not designed to "force prices down"
It was developed as an alternative to proprietary software, one based on the idea of free and open source software. Do you honestly think Linus was sitting there thinking "I want to help the average Joe save money on his software purchases..."

"Again, anytime manufacturers save money, the savings eventually get to the end user."

And here I thought that anytime a large corporation (seeing that they are evil and what not) saves money, the savings go to the bottom line. or in the CEO's pocket.

As for OS prices rising. Every thing I've seen seams to indicate that the cost of the OS is dropping, so that statement was what? Another "scare tactic" to try to lure people away from any other OS other then Linux?
