wasn't that the biggest plus of Linux?

So if only those who are software engineers and have worked with the kernel can touch it, what good is the open source to anyone else? I've heard a thousand times that is the biggest upside of linux?
This is great. Let's standardize on this government software and we can also demand coke and pepsi taste the same so their formulas can be "standardized. I also think we should lobby the giant corporate retail chains to make only one color and one style of clothing to make our choices more efficient and "standardized". Maybe we can do away with private enterprise all together. People here seem to hate it with a vengence, so we can let the government be the only employer and everybody will work for them. Boy, yeah our economy would be great shape then with the Feds running everything....wait..they can't run $hit. That's right. forget that idea and the software you rode in on.
