Dude I have systems that have been running
for years no panics. I have desktops and laptops that run with no panics. If you are having panics then the causes are very simple:

1. You are an idiot that is trying to re-compile when it probably isn't needed.
2. You have hardware that is dying or faulting out.

These are the two primary causes for kernel panics. Linux systems just don't arbitrarily panic. Sorry that distinct honor goes to Windows. Although I will admit Win2K is pretty good, haven't seen a BSOD in some time now. There I admitted it.
