Threat or competitor?
Google appears to be doing something no one else has done in years: challenge monopolies. You can tell this by news releases like this. Notice how BT calls Google a "threat" and not a "competitor". Monopolies don't understand the term competitor. For example, Microsoft routinely states that Google (and Linux) poses a "threat" to their business.

If anything is obvious is the fact that we need more Google's in this world and less BTs and Microsofts.
