Muni WiFi indoors
Maybe you forgot that many people in San Francisco do not live in pretty little houses - they live in multifloor dwellings some without even windows. To put antennas on something outside their apartment (roof many floors up) or a ethernet cable down the hall to the window (if the window is facing a transmitter outside and below the 2nd floor) you gotta get persmission from the management company.

There are ways to solve this indoor WiFi issue - but Earthlink's Tropos equipment doesn't do it.

NextWlan claims to have a WiFi repeater based off DSL which they claim solves the problem
