There is nothing wrong with how things are now (aside from the fact that tax-payers subsidized fiber expansion to the 50 states in the early 90's, attune to roughly $200bil and they did nothing), but 'now' will no longer be relevant if 'priority of service' and tiered services are enacted.

And what fees/taxes/expenses from NN are u referring to? Oh, you mean the expenses of violating it once enacted? Or, take a look at your phone bill, maybe you mean all of those hidden fees/taxes, many of which were legalized by the mid-90's "bell broadband deployment schedule," that never went through. Each individual state altered laws, and gave US taxes to go directly to them to deploy nation-wide broadband? Where is it?

Take a moment and think-innovation is more costly to them in the short term, so the obvious step to them is extra fees for services already being given. They're cutting up the pie and charging more per piece than the whole!
