I agree except for placing the blame.
I believe that the blame belongs completely on the United States Congress for their senseless, illogical, and anti competitive extensions of both patents and copyrights. The Congress should have kept the intent of the Constitution regarding "limited Time", and granting these monopolies to only the Inventor or Author. They should have gone further and placed any patent that was not being actively developed and promoted by the patent holder into the public domain and required that patent applications truly cover NEW ideas and not just a minor improvement on an existing idea.
