Why should they even ask
Just do it. I don't even bring my cell with me when I go out, and can't stand trying to enjoy a movie and hearing people yap on there phones through out the movie. If people have no common courtesy to shut them off, than they should be jammed. Restaurant owners should do it too, since it ruins the mood of a nice night out with my wife when all you hear is phones ringing and people yapping on them.

If you can't be unplugged for a few hours get a life.
