$2600 per new FiOS customer?
Are you sure you have your facts straight that Verizon is spending $2600 per FiOS customer "In 2005, Verizon spent about $1,200 per home to connect customers ... in addition to the $1,400 per home the company spent digging up neighborhood streets." I don't think so. The total started at $1400 per new FiOS custom and dropped to $1200.

Verizon's recent announcement to move to hybrid fiber/Coax is part of a public relations announcement strategy to back out of fiber to the home and move to fiber to the curb or pole or neighborhood. (See Page 1 of Wed 3/8/06 WSJ article where Verizon is whining about cable cuts hurting their fiber to the home game plan as if cable cuts are new or unexpected in the telecom industry)Both BellSouth and SBC stayed away from fiber to the home. Fiber to the neighborhood is a much better idea in terms of return on investment. Also, if Comcast owns the Coax from the pole to the home, how can Verizon use Coax that they do not own? I don't get it.
