The return of "Ma"
"Ma Bell" otherwise known as AT&T was broken up under Federal Anti-trust Law. Bellsouth was one result of this break-up. Cingular was a result of the joint venture between SBC and Bellsouth. Recently AT&T has been acquiring theses corporations as a means to better compete with the emerging competition that is a result of the initial break up of AT&T. Not only was it prdictable that this would happen, it also makes sense. The bell system wasn't broken up to suppress large corporations, it was broken up to encourage more large corporations. Why would AT&T purchase companies competing with its "children."
