Farmers work cheap. Something about the lifestyle. They don't seem to mind working 50 cents an hour. When those workers are can't even make 50 cents an hour they close shop. This worries corporations who depend on this cheap source of raw materials (food) for thier processing plants.

Now these corporation could get thier raw materials for processing from the same place the consumer get fresh food but that's much more expensive and would put them out of business. So yeah there is a big cry when farmers come close to going out of business and it big corporation who pull the string to get aid programs.

Used to be farm, I know. I used to raise hogs and know exactly what No_Axe is talking about. I gave up on farming when the 50 cents an hour dropped to 14 cents an hour. I just couldn't do it anymore. There is something about the lifestyle though.

So now I live in the city but I still have my roots. Where everyone else on my street has backyard with a lawn like a golf course I have garden that feeds my family for most of the year. I use my land, the old farm, the raise chicken, pigs and cattle for personal consumption still too. Just need a job in the city to pay all the other bills.

Something has to change though are all our food will go up in price as we end up importing it all from other countries. Pretty stupid if you ask me.
