Instead of getting the government involved.
Okay we have two paths here..

1)
* You raise your 5,000 acres of corn.
* The government takes $2 of my money and gives it to you so your phone is cheap.
* The government takes $600 of my money and gives it to you so your school is as good as mine.
* The government takes $5 to run the programs that take my money and give it to you.
* You charge me $1 per head of corn and I spend $607 on corn and tax transfers.

2)
* You raise your 5,000 acres of corn.
* The government takes none of my money.
* The government wastes none of my money.
* You charge me $1.01 per head of corn because your costs are higher which is the real cost of my head of corn and I spend $602 a year on corn.

I greatly prefer the latter.
