Competition?
"That's my bent...whenever possible I don't like to see local governments competing with the private sector."

When we have Senators like this who needs enemies.

The problem is there is no real competition. These telco's enjoy what amounts to localized monopolies. If they were providing a compelling service and actively trying to cover everyone at a reasonable price there would be no interest in muni-wifi.

So because they don't want to lose a potential market (wether they ever intend to cover that market or not) they want the People limited by law. Let's face it, when local governments get into muni-wifi it is the People geting together to solve a common problem for themselves. As it should be with a government which was intended to be by the people for the people. Instead we a government of the powerful corporations for the powerful corporations.

Nothing will change until all forms of corporate money are completely eliminated from politics.
