Correct, NATG.. You can't pick and choose.
Hence the problem.

They must obey the laws of all countries they work in. If US laws state that US companies can't censor but local laws state they must, then , as a US company, they cannot do business in the foreign country. So they better pack up and go home. The US gov't is just insisting on a minimum level of ethical behaviour for a corporation to call itself a US citizen.

It's just like bribery laws. Some countries expect it (call it facilitation payments if you like) but other countries, USA and Australia included, say that's just not on.
