$1 billion doesn't buy much, does it?!
Well, except keeping Microsoft from making a deal with AOL that might have benefitted both companies.

The NY Times had a good article on the AOL Microsoft negotiations. A number of ways of coordinating the activities of the two companies were discussed.
Each suggestion would have required AOL to change the way it does business in order to increase revenues and profitability.

Google offered nearly free money.

Given that Time Warner has been an RIAA company, can you guess which offer was considered more worthwhile?
