Other governments have provided decent zoning layouts...
In the US, driving is a necessity.

I can't get a bus to go from where I live to where I work; certainly not at the times I am expected to BE at work - and work is 25 miles away.

As the economy continues to worsen, the need for transport to keep the executives happy will increase - assuming we'll still have jobs, mind you...

All of this is the result of poor transpoort system planning. Other governments in other countries knew what they were doing. What's wrong with our system, which also is a big constituent of our misuse of oil/gasoline.

BTW: Americans live in an oligarchic plutocracy. We're anything but a democracy, republic, or anything inbetween.
