Digital TV switch set for early 2009

Catering to the wrong crowd: Digital TV is cool. Lots of great features. However, its unfair to force consumers to buy digital sets. With the myriad of remote control options, my grandmother can't figure out how to use these things?

Furthermore, all she wants to do is be able to watch the local news stations. She's not interested in all the extra cable channels that are out there.

Why should consumers be forced to buy more expensive television sets when their current ones suit them just fine? Why should consumers be forced to subscribe to digital services?
