Say, you know that Media Center PC that's not caught on so well? It's getting its butt kicked by cell phones. Right here on ZDnet a few months back, it was reported that in Japan last year $22 million worth of music was downloaded to cell phones, while only $4 mil worth went to PCs (both numbers sound suspiciously low to me, but I'll take ZDnet's word for it). Korea is pretty much the same way, and now Europe is following the trend.

David Berlind--where's the future of that Microsoft Media Juggernaut when some Swedish kid creates, basically, a sound effect in his bedroom, releases it to the cell phone world and it proceeds to decimate Capitol Record's (owned by EMI--a Juggernaut co-conspirator) biggest cash cow on the charts?

Yep, it's a new day dawning, all right, when an entire generation of Asian kids think that PCs are for old folks only and when acts signed by Big Music have to constantly look over their shoulders to see if a ringtone created by some anonymous urban youth knocks their multi-million-dollar heavily promoted album down the charts a few notches...and Big Media, in desperation, skips the Juggernaut consumption/distribution business model and goes directly to cell phone.
