Sounds like politics as usual
Governmental politicians work much the same way (fudging on the issues most people don't understand or don't care about to earn those big campaign contributions), but the voters are still responsible for the official acts of those they choose. The fact that we elect such people or (if you prefer) uphold a system that makes the election of such people inevitible isn't really relevant. We, the people, are responsible nonetheless and the system will be more honest if voters are willing to make that a top priority. That means preferring honest candidates you don't agree with over dishonest ones you do (most people aren't willing to do that).

Stockholders remain the people to whom corporate politicans ultimately answer and who are in turn responsible for the way their "elected representatives" do their jobs. The fact that most corporate boards don't do a very good job of supervising corporate executives is beside the point. They and the stockholders who ratified their appointments (most corporate elections are uncontested, unfortunately) are responsible nonetheless.
