What do you expect?

"My mother taught for 25+ years. After 5 years of working, I made more than my mother did at that time. My wife got out of teaching and into special services because teaching is a thankless job. I see some of these new teachers and it makes me cringe."

Asked (well not really) and answered. How can we expect the best and brightest to go into teaching when we pay them less than a high school dropout can make selling cars or as a realtor?

I have to laugh at folks like George who whine about teachers who by and large, have more education, work longer hours, and get paid less. No one goes into teaching for the money - you do it because you love to teach and want to make a difference.
