"Misperceptions"
I think that while VoIP might be suffering from what the article refers to as "misperceptions" about call quality and reliability, the fact is that there are some real problems with VoIP that need to be addressed for it to gain a good reputation. I signed up for VoIP through AT&T a few weeks ago, and I just got my telephone adapter yesterday. And once you get your system set up, you're not out of the woods yet. Apparently, the integration of the VoIP network with the regular phone network isn't a seamless beast. Although I can make outgoing calls, I was told that they could not guarantee that I would receive incoming calls (from anyone not on the VoIP network) before Nov. 15.

It's these kinds of kinks they need to work out of the system.
