If it looks like duck, sounds like a duck, and smells like a duck

You know the saying.

It isn't a direct TAX. But consider it like this. They want the make money by forcing you to obtain access to TV via a new means, digital. That frees them up to sell off the analog spectrum to make billions. To keep what you already have you pay $50 per TV set and gain nothing extra. All that so the government can make money. Sounds like a tax to me.

Only differnce is this one tax you can choose not to pay and just pawn off you current Television sets.
