we actually agree on something.
I live in an area where we are frequented by hurricanes. My lifeline, in the midst of the storm, is a portable, analog, TV that runs on batteries. I have two, one is B/W and the other is color LCD. It's the only way to know what really is going on outside as all of my windows are shuttered and everything is battened down completely. After the storm, we need to know where the relief stations are and the current state of our community.
Electricity? With FPL (Florida Flash and Phlicker) we're lucky to get electricity on a good day. So it has to run efficiently on batteries - period.
Am I supposed to find a battery operated Digital to Analog TV converter? How much money am I supposed to shell out to upgrade my home system as well?
All of this so the cops can have computer terminals in their cruiser? Oh wait, they already do. Okay, so that the firemen can video conference while battling fires? I don't think so. If there is really a dirth of bandwidth for our emergency teams, how come my police and firemen friends never mention this? The National Guard and coast Guard have the own bands.
I don't get why we must ever part with free analog TV ever unless its a way to completely control the viewing market and ultimately censor content. This reminds me a lot about the Max Headroom future that seemed so bizarely improbable then but is landing on our heads in the next year or so. - Posted by: jacarter3 Posted on: 10/18/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
