Intel might get burned.
Playing the pre-standard game can be dangerous. Cisco did it with Power-over-Ethernet, the result was product lines that only worked with pre-standard and wasn't compatible with the loads of IEEE standard products that cane after the standard was finalized.

If it speeds up finalizing 802.11n great, but Intel may end up with a ton of chips that aren?t standard and possibly not compatible with the standard. And if you?ve ever dealt with a customer (especially government customers) you?ll know just how important being able to say you product conforms to (blank) standard. Only technology geeks know that a pre-standard support is about the same, with sales people it?s all about conforming to this standard or this code.
