Customers FIRST, other businesses SECOND
Amazing. They violated what I believe to be a basic business principle - the customer comes first. The customer, after all, is who they exist to serve. Not to mention their primary source of income. Cutting off half of their Internet access is not putting their customers first.

If this continues in the future, it will only mean more trouble for them. After all, customers have a habit of voting with their wallets.

And, since the Internet is a pretty public network - and because the government has a huge stake in the Internet, a disruption as big as this one is bound to get their attention.

And guess what? The government is a customer also! They do, after all, offer a lot of services over the Internet - and when the Internet goes down, they feel the pain also. They're also one of the largest customers, as well as one that has a lot of legal power.

They can ignore customer complaints easily (and apparently they have), but they'll find it vey difficult to ignore government complaints.

And it appears some people have their heads stuck in the sand believing that the government has little to do with the current Internet. Far from the truth, the government started the Internet and still has firm roots in it. The DNS system ultimately answers to the US Department of Commerce - ICANN has a contract with them. And I'm sure the government has plenty of roots elsewhere.
