Not a Private Matter Anymore

I am no advocate for govt. intervention, but the Internet is very much like our road and highway system. Can you image what travel would be like if each time we went from just state to state or worse from city to suburban community we would have to pay a toll?

My suggestion is that the Internet and other parts of the telecommunications system a combined public/private consortium. Service providers like SBC, Comcast, Time-Warner (Roadrunner), Verizon, Vonage, etc. can then sell to customers anywhere across the country and pay customer-based fees to the public/private consortium for use and maintenance of the Internet and telecommunications system.
