A balancing act.
My major concern here is that by seeking (or allowing?) government in this one issue, we're opening the door for further government regulation of the internet, which I suppose could be a good or bad thing depending upon how you look at it.

Personally, I prefer the smallest number of intermediaries possible, so to me the idea of any entity having control over corporations' capability to make money for their shareholders. I do believe that this is an example of unmitigated greed and hubris on Level3's part, and I'm sad to see them act this way, but I also think that (as I believe another ZDNet Blogger pointed out) the best way to handle this would be through a third party private mediator and not through legislation, as mutual agreements tend to be a lot more flexible than laws.
