OUCH
After all the regulations in the past that have been against general wiretapping (can't do it without a warrant, illegal taps are not useable in court, etc, etc) - they want to make it easier?!?!

Somebody please fire the current FCC director.

As if hacking a wireless connection isn't easy enough, grr. This will only make it easier. If the government requires everybody have a backdoor, you can bet hackers will find that backdoor.

"Bush administration officials who have warned of VoIP services becoming a 'haven' for terrorists, criminals and spies."

Yeah, and now the terrorists, criminals, and spies can borrow hacker tools (when they come out, and believe me, they will) and use the government's backdoor against us.

I understand that the government wants greater security, but this is not the way to acheive it.

"Injecting additional uncertainty is whether the FCC's action is legal."

I agree. This could very well run counter to existing wiretap laws, which have historically been on the side of protecting the innocent. I hope somebody steps up and takes them to court.
