This will happen in 2 stages. 1) Paid VoIP services kill POTS (telcos) 2) Paid listing services offers "yellow pages" lookup of symbolic names.

[They will use that to keep people using their services and keep the add revenue rolling in.]

HOW? Google uses an indirect method for contacting sellers AND IT WORKS WELL. Trying to establish real-time connections is problematic. Time zones and plain old refusals to use voice will limit its usefulness. A Google seller counts on "fire-and-forget" retailing and "feedback-at-my-leisure" for responding to inquiries.
