In Florida a hurricane is a way of life.
If the houses were looted before hand those products will be damaged when the water comes in. Insurance will cover it. You are stupid not to insure contents. If you are broke then no loss anyway.

You do not live in a hurricane prone area. You can tell or guesstimate how hard you will get hit by news of destruction going down in front of the path leading to you. With this water, you would have to know how many feet above sea level you are. Obviously Bourbon St. is high ground.
