BPL and Interference
no_ax_to_grind said, "To my knowledge it only bothers a very small part of of the space that was formerly given to HAM operators." Formerly???
Last I heard the "licensed" users still have priority over BPL and hams are still assigned their small part of the spectrum as primary users. BPL is the freeloader here and its their responsibility to not cause interference.

Motorola has shown intereference can be conquered. The National Amateur Radio organization, the ARRL, conducted joint tests at their headquarters in Newington, CT with
Motorola's system and almost no intereference was detected (unlike some of the other providers of BPL). http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2005/08/29/1/?nc=1

There are still throughput limits that at present will keep BPL in the DSL performance range. Responsible providers can co-exist with most all radio users but unfortunately, many providers are still using political influence rather than technical design improvements to get their way. At least Motorola is showing there is another solution.
