Hey George
I was wondering (serious here), seems the concern of ham operators being interfered with is what is in question. You pointed out that AM radios are interfered with on a usual basis. Is not the solution real simple like ummm distance. I mean walk under a standard home power line with an AM radio and staic ensues and as you get away from it the radio clears. I am not seeing a problem here. Ham Radio operators would simply position their antennas at points in their yards/homes where their radios are not affected. My Granddad had a ham radio with the antenna in his home and there were no problems.
