A Tax by any other name is a tax just the same
And I DO NOT agree with this fee crap/tax crap. You and I agree across the board. Government regulation has caused me to pay higher electric bills while the larger city areas have a choice of up to 5 competing companies. I pay higher DSL bills because government regulation will not allow competition in my area. That is just part of my rant on government regulation of any type.

The guy above lit my fuse with his class warfare argument. Less than 5% of Americans pay 90% of the taxes. He ain't in that 5%. So his answer is to tax/fee us more.

You are exactly right about the fees and who "wins". I have seen "fees" raised across the board in necessary and opt in services that were supposed to be targeted help "last milers" (since this is a tech discussion) and have yet to see anything in 5 years of promises.

Here is a real sad example of what you speak. Here in Texas there "was" a state program to help the indigent and elderly to pay electric bills. When the bill was instituted a "small fee" was assessed on the light bill that went to the state. Welllllhellll the legislature has decided that the state can no longer afford to subsidize the program. What really chapped my butt was that the fee is still collected, the legislators decided they could give themselves a raise and give a tax break to drug companies. WTF is wrong with that picture?
