Intel does need to sell products, yes.
But end users have not heard of WiFi or WiMax in general.

As even the Intel representative said, the public attitude will initially be, why bother?. But with a lot of publicity and intensive campaigning, the public attitude might be brought to: Well, maybe.

Given the costs, I don't think Well, maybe. is good enough.


There are places, though, where the telcos have not tried to install service or have not made improved service available. In those places, where telcos do not see sufficient profit to invest, I can see a municipal equivalent being funded by local government.

In that case, the supplier and type of system should be open to bid.
Then I'd expect the telcos to win because of the resources they'd have available.
They would bid because the municipal authorities have effectively guaranteed them a profit.

Simple.
