Find one laptop, cellphone or mobile device that supports WiMAX now!
WiMAX is last mile, a mesh newtork of WiFi is better as people actually use WiFi now (in laptops, phones, PC's, etc.). Until WiMAX (or a derivative) is internal to these devices (that consumers use) it is of no concern.

A WiFi mesh actually provides access to anyone with a device that understand WiFi, WiMAX is for last mile thus being of limited use to the average city dweller. If it were a high capacity area (like http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1035-5618490.html Self-install WiMax kit comes to Tokyo), then WiMAX may be important.

Most people don't want to think about setting up a router, much less a switch or a PC or ...
