It's STILL all about money!
As I said in a reply to the previous story link, the FCC put themselves in a bind when they classified cable broadband as an "information" not "telecomunication" service. This now frees phone giants like Verizon's DSL from regualtions and recovery taxes that cable doesn't have ... or does it?

As you can see, there is no way that the Federal Govt is going to give up revenue .... hence the statement in the article, "Phone companies offering DSL service will also still be required to contribute to the Universal Service Fund, a federal program that subsidizes phone service in rural areas."

This is a condition of a public "telecomunications" service, NOT of an "information" service! Verizon has to pay 10% of it's revenue so some hick can get phone service ... Time Warner doesn't have to do it ... they also offer phone service! FOUL!

Do you really think that the Federal government is going to give up 10% of Verizon's revenue (even though they say that they "will see later")?

Stay tuned folks ... this ain't over yet!
