Promotional vs real value
These new deals do nothing for the majority of people living in rural areas. Usually DSL is not an option or limited to very low speeds. And then there is usually only one cable company in an area. So you're stuck. And even if the price is cheap for the first few months, it usually jumps after the promotional period is over.

And then when new offers come out, you can't take advantage because you're already their slave, er, customer.
