BPL will cause loss of short wave listening/disrupt Amateur Radio Services
The rapid rush to put broad band internet service on power lines will disrupt many communications services. In the possibility that a small community has a volunteer service for fire and medical services that use radios in the band that will carry the BPL signal, lives may be at rish because emergency calls will be disrupted.
The FCC has been pressured to ignore reports of radiation beyound the limits set forth in the Federal Codes, from BPL systems.
Power companies need to look at the cost of the couplers and amplifers needed to carry the signal for the 2000 +/- feet to mainain the legal limit on out of system radiation. Raising power in the lines will increase radiation and FCC complaints.
BPL system advocates have not told the businesses that a legal 10 watt radio transmission in the BPL band within a few hundred feet of the BPL line, will shut down the data flow and result in customer dissatisfaction and loss of revenue. This in turn will prove a poor investment for stock holders of power companies. The bottom line boys need to wake up.
