No Ax,
Utilities keep transformers, relays, switches, and yes, copper, for DECADES. Each of these components causes a drop in signal. Powerline technology has some use, but it is not up to all the hype that seems to be getting generated here. In the utility biz we've been using powerline communications for decades, to synchronize electrical components at each end of long transmission lines, but we are talking very low bitrates.
