Hicks != Farmers

The terms "hick" and "farmer" do not mean the same thing; there are many "hicks" out there who are completely unproductive in society (aside from reproductively). Also, many farmers are quite technologically apt; managing a large farm probably requires keeping a lot of information in order (something that computers and such can be extremely useful for--which you should know if you do anything other than play games with them).

I think in this sense "hicks", possibly somewhat inaccurately, refers to poor people, largely those who are, perhaps, a bit backwards when it comes to the use of modern technology. A good thing to keep in mind is that loaded terms are often loaded in more way than one (they do not always mean the same thing to different people).
